With Christmas coming round the corner at what feels like lightening speed, so does all the feelings of stress and panic. What if the kids don’t like their presents? What if the turkey’s undercooked? What if we don’t have enough chairs for the in-laws?!
As a big part of a busy family, it can be really easy to forget that Christmas is supposed to be a magical time, when the stresses take over. So this year, why not take a breather and aim to make this one the best yet, as simply as possible?
We’ve come up with what we think are the perfect ways to have an amazing holiday with your family, and one that you’ll all remember for the right reasons.
That might not be a word you’re very familiar with anymore, but give it a go. Things can get more than a little bit hectic at this time of year, so don’t be afraid to take a few hours to yourself to relax and recharge.
Sharing is caring
And don’t be afraid to ask for help! Many relatives would jump at the chance of collaborating with you when it comes to stuffing the turkey, so ask them! You could even get the kids involved with simpler things, such as helping to set the table and stirring sauces. They’ll no doubt love proclaiming to your guests that they ‘made’ the cranberry sauce!
Don’t let Christmas shopping drive you mad
The best way to attack the often-dreaded Christmas shop is to get organised. My mum was always making lists, and now I can truly appreciate why. Work out exactly who you have to buy for and how much you want to spend on each person, and aim to stick to it as best you can. And a great tip is to shop online wherever you can – there’s definitely no shame in it. Sites like Getting Personal offer ideas for even the pickiest recipients, and you can choose their gift in the comfort of your own home. When online shopping for Christmas presents, the key thing to check is the last delivery dates for the big day, to ensure there are no disappointed faces on Christmas morning.
Enjoy family activities
Take advantage of all the wonderful things available at this time of year for the whole family, so that you can all spend some lovely quality time together and give the kids a memorable Christmas. A lot of events at this time of year are reasonably priced, and if you look hard enough, some are even free! Lots of cities in the UK now host a winter wonderland, and the original is Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland. You can walk around the park taking in all of the lovely festive sites for free, and a lot of the rides and attractions such as ice skating are also fairly cheap, too. If London isn’t ideal, there are lots of other ones to visit, such as winter wonderlands in Yorkshire, Swansea, Nottingham, Chester and Liverpool, to name a few. And there’s even a UK Lapland in Berkshire!
