I don’t know about you, but I absolutely dread shopping for school shoes. You would think that it’s a simple enough process wouldn’t you? You go into a shoe shop accompanied by smiley happy children all positively delighted with the prospect of having something new, you’re greeted by a friendly member of staff in a calm environment, the children all behave impeccably and come out with shoes as shiny as their smiles. Right? WRONG!
The scene that greets you at the local shoe shop is one of chaos. Store assistants can barely keep order, a wave of desperate parents are elbowing each other for the last pair of shoes in a size 10 F, the DVLA-sized queues for the measuring machine are out the door and your children will instantly turn into feral animals pummelling each other with whatever objects they can find. It’s nothing short of a madhouse.
This year though I’ve managed to escape the mayhem, thanks to the lovely people at Brantano who got in touch and asked if we’d like to review a pair of shoes from their ‘back to school’ range. I have to admit I’ve always perceived Brantano to be a smallish company with a limited range of products, but I was really surprised by what I found this time.
They now stock a huge range of boys’ and girls’ school shoes, all year round, including the latest styles from popular brands such as Clarks, Hush Puppies and Start-Rite. What’s more, their shoes are available in half sizes and a range of widths for perfect all day comfort.
I happen to have a Clarks Fitting Gauge at home (if you don’t have one, I’d seriously recommend investing in one as it saves a lot of hassle) so I already knew what size Riley needed and was able to order a pair of new school shoes from the comfort of my own home.
We opted for a pair of Clarks Obie Play F Velcro Fastening School Shoes which retail at £34.00. They are made from leather and have a classic school profile, using moccasin styling with a durable rubber outsole. The double Velcro fastening results in a secure fit while a padded topline offers all day comfort. I chose Velcro fastenings for ease mainly because I wanted Riley to be able to put his shoes on and take them off again by himself, without the need to ask for help.
The shoes also come with natural Agion linings, which eliminate odour-causing bacteria and keep feet fresh throughout the day.
The shoes are well made and feel of a really high quality in my opinion. Plus, Riley says they are really comfortable which is the main thing, so I’m just hoping they stand the test of time because he is notorious for falling and tripping over his own feet.
Shopping online with Brantano for school shoes is really easy and saves so much time, stress and money. They have ranges to suit all budgets and offer free returns and free super saver delivery on orders over £35.
