Schools, pre-schools, creches and nurseries all insist that children’s belongings are clearly named these days, and with good reason. I mean, i’ve lost count of the amount of times my niece has come home from school with a missing cardigan, or i’ve picked Riley up from preschool only to find he’s lost his drinks bottle and wearing somebody else’s jumper. This isn’t a one-off either, it’s something that happens on a weekly basis and replacement costs can soon spiral out of control.
With Riley starting school in September and Harry at preschool, i’ve spent a small fortune recently on new uniforms, shoes, PE Kits, bags, drinks bottles etc. and in a bid to avoid anything going missing or getting lost i plan on labelling everything. And i can, thanks to the love people at My Name Label who are the focus of today’s “Back to School” feature.
They very kindly sent us one of their starter packs. If you are looking for a small pack to get you started this is the pack you need. A little bit of everything and you can simply top up on the things you find you use most.
The design process is really simple and takes no time at all. In the first section you enter the wording to be used on the first line (compulsory) and second line (optional) and choose from 4 different lettering styles. I opted to have Riley’s full name on the first line and my mobile number on the second line. The font we chose was “Marker Pen”. The next section gives you the option of adding a picture to the label. Designs vary but they are in doodle form and include a flower, ball, spaceship, car, boat, fairy, mermaid etc. Riley wanted a dinosaur so we went with that picture. The next section is quantity, but as this is a combination pack the quantity is already entered for you. Lastly, there’s the colour section and there are 13 to choose from (red, orange, lime, bright blue, bright pink, baby blue, baby pink, purple, navy, white, black, clear and silver). You are able to preview your design throughout the process which is a really handy feature as it gives you a clear idea of what the end product will look like and also allows you to see if you’ve made any mistakes/spelling errors.

What do we think?
SHOE LABELS – LOVE these! I have honestly never come across name labels like this before and i think they’re brilliant. They fit neatly in the heel of the boys’ shoes and i had enough stickers for 2 pairs so that’s the school shoes and P.E. trainers covered! The shoes haven’t been worn at all yet, but the trainers have been getting lots of use and i’m surprised that the stickers haven’t worn down or the text rubbed off. The labels still look as good as new – super impressive! They’re really easy to apply as well, you stick the clear overlay over the coloured labels and then stick both into the inside sole of the shoe. Voila!
BAG TAG – The bag tag is an ideal size and is made from plastic/laminated card, so it feels quite strong and of a good quality. I don’t think it will get broken or snapped any time soon. It’s perfect for Riley’s new book bag as it has an elastic attachment (similar to a lanyard) so can be attached to it quite easily. You could also use it on a backpack or lunch bag.
IRON ON LABELS – The iron on labels are perfect for Riley’s school uniform. We have sweatshirts, poloshirts, trousers, P.E. kit, coat, waterproof jacket and trousers…and every single item needs to be labelled when they’re in reception class. The labels come in two different sizes and are really quick and easy to apply. All you have to do is peel the label away from the clear backing sheet, place on clothing where required, use the supplied non-stick backing paper over the label and then with a hot dry iron – NO STEAM – press down firmly for approximately 10-15 seconds. These labels are machine washable and can also be tumble dried.
Warning – Do not attempt to iron directly onto the label. It will melt and stick to your iron!
ADHESIVE LABELS – I’ve used the adhesive stickers on the boys’ lunchboxes, snack pots, drinks bottles, wellies and P.E. bags so far and have found them really easy to apply. The water bottles and lunchboxes have been through the dishwasher a couple of times already and i’ve put the snack pots in the microwave to heat some pasta and it hasn’t faltered the quality of the labels at all.
