One of the latest toys from Hasbro is the Transformers: Robots in Disguise Power Surge Optimus Prime and Aerobolt.
If you are unfamiliar with the Transformers: Robots in Disguise animated series, it revolves around a team of Autobots, led by their leader Bumblebee. Their mission is simply to capture the Decepticons who are loose on Earth…and do it without being discovered.
The Autobots discover a powerful group of Mini-Con Weaponizers bots – who not only convert to weapons they give other bots a Power Surge to use in battle.
Transformers are something that Riley has only recently gotten into, but he is already obsessed, so I was thrilled when we were given the opportunity to review the new Transformers: Robots in Disguise Power Surge Optimus Prime and Aerobolt.
What’s in the box?
1 x Transformers: Robots in Disguise Power Surge Optimus Prime
1 x Mini-Con Weaponizers Aerobolt
1 x Sword Accessory
The items were packaged surprisingly well. Like most toys there was the barrage of plastic, string and elastic bands to get through first, but with a pair of scissors to hand it took minimal effort or time. Batteries come included, which is always a bonus when you have demanding, impatient children on your hand, particularly on chaotic Christmas mornings! Hold up – did someone just mention the C word? It is less than 3 months away people!
I mentioned above about the role of the Mini-Con Weaponizer bots and in the case of Optimus Prime, he links with the Mini-Con Aerobolt to activate Power Surge mode, then uses his wings and flight power to battle in the air. Having watched the tv series myself, I would say that the toy has been designed to reflect and portray that aspect very accurately
The Mini-Con Weaponizers Aerobolt figure activates a number of features on the Optimus Prime figure and can be used as a shield of a weapon depending on the positioning of the wings. It attaches to Optimus Prime’s chest, activating Power Surge mode. This unleashes the figure’s full feature set including pop-out cannons and wings, lights and battle sounds.
N.B. You can attach different Mini-Con Weaponizers figures (each sold separately) to activate different sounds.
This 11-inch tall figure has 4 exciting modes of play: robot mode, vehicle mode, flight mode (features flying sounds) and Power Surge mode (unleashes figure’s full feature set).
This Power Surge Optimus Prime figure converts from robot to truck and back in 5 steps and there is a clear set of images to follow in the instruction booklet. Although I will be totally honest now and confess to it taking me a good 20 attempts on the first go due to me not following them correctly. Once you know what you’re doing though, it’s a pretty simple and straightforward process, although younger owners may need a little help with the twisting and turning of some of the smaller, fiddly parts.
As for the Mini-Con Weaponsizer Aerobolt, that converts from eagle to shield in 1 step.
Hasbro Transformers: Robot in Disguise Optimus Prime and Mini-Con Weaponsizers Aerobolt are made from a tough plastic that feels durable and of a good quality. I don’t think little fingers will be breaking the toys anytime soon, put it that way. They’re clearly built to withstand the boisterous behavior, bumps and bangs, commonly associated with children. Ideal given the history of destruction Riley and Harry are known to cause.
