We all know how expensive Christmas can be, so it’s always good to find ways to keep costs down. I find using discount stores a great way to pick up a few bargains, especially as they often sell branded goods at reduced prices. One such store is Poundstretcher and recently they armed me with £25 worth of vouchers to spend instore on a Christmas haul.
Poundstretcher stocks a huge range of Christmas products including gift wrap and accessories, holiday clothing, decorations, lights, trees, stocking fillers, confectionery and gifts. I was really impressed with the variety of items I managed to get in my Christmas haul, but I had assumed everything would be a £1 – it wasn’t – so I did have to try and keep tabs on how much I was spending and what items I was putting into the basket.
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without sweets and chocolates and if you are looking for confectionery from the likes of Cadbury, Nestle, Haribo and Swizzles, Poundstretcher sells loads at reduced prices. Take for example the Cadbury Small Chocolate Selection Packs which are on sale in supermarkets for £1. I managed to pick up these ones for 75p each and the box of 30 Mini Candy Canes was only £1.
Gift Wrap, Cards & Accessories
With rolls of wrap in various lengths and an array of gift bags in various sizes, Poundstretcher have a wrapping solution for every present. I picked up a pack of 3 santa sacks which were £1, some rolls of 8m wrapping paper for 99p each, 3 giant gift bags and 2 packs of Christmas cards which were £1 each. However, there are also individual cards available for the special people in your life, alongside a bumper pack of 50 cards for a bargain price at £1.99. They do a huge range of extra-wide wrapping paper, labels, tags, ribbon, bows and other accessories available.
As well as an array of “traditional” tableware, there were lots that had been specifically designed for kids and as I’m throwing the boys a “North Pole Breakfast” as one of their advent activities I wanted to get some bits for this. I opted for this really cute penguin and polar design and managed to pick up 20 paper plates for a £1, 20 paper cups for a £1, 9 mini crackers for a £1 and a matching PVC tablecover for 89p.
Lastly, I stopped by the tree decorations aisle to find some lights and baubles for the Christmas trees. The boys have a mini tree in their bedroom and chose these packs of gorgeous copper coloured baubles. Both packs contain 24 baubles – the bigger ones were £1.99 and the smaller sized ones were £1 which I thought was great value for money. For the large Christmas tree that’s in our living room, I picked out these pink/purple shatterproof bauble tubes that were £1.99 each or on offer as 2 for £3. They had a host of baubles in other colours as well including reds, silvers, golds, greens and blues. I spotted some 50 Piece Luxury Christmas Tree Decoration Sets available for £5.99 which is a steal when you can pay upwards of £12.99 for similar in other shops. The pack of 20 Bright White LED lights was £1.49 and contained just the right amount to brighten up the boys mini tree.
Update for 2017: If you’re looking for small sized trees for your kid’s bedroom or placing on a table, consider looking into ceramic Christmas trees. These trees are different than ordinary Xmas decorations, and some even light up which make for an awesome experience! If you’re up for the challenge, you can also buy a ceramic Christmas tree kit and paint them with your kids – an experience they are sure to enjoy! You can find more than ten different ones to choose from at Christmas Tree Source and accessories for ceramic trees such as lights and stars if you’ve got an old one that needs some TLC.
As you can see from my Poundstretcher haul, there are lots of genuine bargains to be found in-store or online including branded goods. Many of the decorative items are similar to things that can be found in other stores or online that cost so much more! It’s great to be able to make your money go further by shopping in Poundstretcher for some of your Christmas needs.
