I would say that in my adult life, up until the boys arrived, I had always been a bit of a bah-humbag towards the festive season, but Christmas has truly become the most wonderful time of the year for me. I absolutely love being able to make it as magical for the boys as possible and see the joy in their eyes on Christmas morning, so i was really happy when the lovely Sarah at Rosey Home tagged me in this Christmas Tag for 2016.
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
Oooohhh……that’s a tough one. I think my all-time favourite “classic” Christmas movie would be Santa Claus: The Movie. I have watched that every year since I was a small child and I still to this day absolutely love it! I think if Father Christmas were real, he would be David Hubblestone! In terms of more recent Christmas movies, I adore Elf and The Holiday.
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
No…not that I can remember anyway. One can hope though, right?
Where do you usually spend your holiday?
It changes every year. As long as I’m with family I don’t really care where I spend it to be honest, although this will be my first Christmas Day without the boys as they are going to their dads.
What is your favourite Christmas song?
It would have to be Rocking Around The Christmas Tree, although i can’t listen to that song without picturing Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone.
Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
I usually allow the boys to open one present each on Christmas Eve, it’s become a bit of a tradition.
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
YES! Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and of course Rudolph!
Which holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
We have lots. I always look forward to putting together a Christmas Eve basket full of goodies for the boys so I guess that would be my favourite. But, also, going to the garden centre to pick a new tree decoration each, decorating the tree together, Christmas book advent calendar, festive jumpers, visiting Father Christmas. I really could go on.
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Fake. Ain’t no one got time for a real tree in this household. I have enough mess to clear up on a daily basis without the addition of pine needles as well. Lol. We have a really pretty pre-lit Christmas tree that is perfect for us! The boys also have a mini one upstairs that they’re allowed to decorate however they like.
What is your all time favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?
Pigs in blankets…without a doubt! A Christmas dinner isn’t Christmas dinner without some pigs in blankets and lashings of gravy!
Be honest, do you like giving or receiving gifts better?
Giving. For me, Christmas is all about the boys and making it as magical as possible for them. I am so excited to see their faces on Christmas morning and watch them open all their presents.
What is the best Christmas present you ever received?
I couldn’t possibly choose just one, I have had lots of wonderful presents over the years.
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
New York. Christmas in NYC is the stuff dreams are made of and it’s way up there on my bucket list. Admiring the Rockefeller Centre Christmas tree, ice skating in central park, looking at window displays on 5th Avenue, watching a performance of The Nutcracker at The Lincoln Center. I want to do it all.
Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
I wouldn’t go as far as to say I am a pro, but I’m not rubbish at it either. I’m a perfectionist so I like to make sure it looks nice and is done properly!
Most memorable Christmas moment?
Walking onto the NICU ward on my first Christmas as a mama and seeing that all the babies had received a visit from ‘Father Christmas’ overnight and he’d left personalised stockings full of presents hanging on their incubators. I was so moved and touched, it brought me to tears. They’d even taken a photo of Riley and had it made into a special Christmas bauble.
What made you realise the truth about Santa?
I was VERY young when I discovered that Father Christmas wasn’t real, probably only about 4 or 5. I remember waking up in the middle of the night one Christmas Eve and walking in the living room to find my mum stuffing the stockings with presents and my dad eating the mince pies.
What makes the holidays special for you?
The boys…and spending time with the people I love.
I’m not going to tag anyone in particular, but feel free to join in with this if you’d like too!
