It’s December…how did that happen? Like, I literally have no idea where the last 12 months of my life have gone. 2016 seems to have passed in a flash and i can hardly believe that i am sat here writing my last “Siblings” update for the year. There were times when i genuinely didn’t think i would keep up with this project. I’ve been late with pretty much every single post, but i’m so glad i persevered and continued to document the little moments between the boys as it’s lovely to have them all to look back and reflect on.
The dynamic between Riley and Harry has changed so much over the course of this year. Harry used to act like he was in charge and boss Riley around quite a bit, but Riley’s grown in strength and confidence – particularly since starting school – and he definitely stands up for himself more these days. In that respect, i would say that their roles have completely reversed as Harry tends to take a back seat and look to Riley for guidance and reassurance now.
For the most part, the boys are extremely affectionate and kind and loving towards one another, but there are occasions where Harry can be a complete brat – if i’m being honest – and poor Riley always seems to be on the receiving end of it. He is slowly learning just to ignore him and let him get on with it, but it is something that interferes with their relationship and something that i’m trying hard to nip in the bud.
In spite of this, though, they are still incredibly close. They play together so nicely and are just at a really fun age, where the world is full of possibilities and their imagination, creativity, and social skills are peaking.
Their relationship has truly blossomed over the past year and it’s so beautiful to see. I’m sure every mama says this about their children but i feel truly blessed to call them mine and privileged that i get to witness and experience so many wonderful moments between them.
And just like that 2016 was over…see you all for The Siblings Project in 2017!
