2016 was a year of important political decisions – EU Referendum, May elections, MP vote on Trident and the US Presidential election – and 2017 is kicking off with another one!
Monopoly is planning a complete overhaul of the current tokens and they are asking YOU to vote for the eight tokens that you would like to see in the next generation of the Monopoly game.
In 2013, a similar vote meant that the old, faithful iron was replaced by a cat, and now, four years on, all of your favourite tokens are in jeopardy. The Monopoly Token Madness Vote leaves the fate of the 8 current Monopoly tokens, including the Scottie dog, top hat and car in the hands of the fans.
They need YOUR VOTE to SAVE THEM!
Head on over to VoteMonopoly.com now. There you’ll get to tour the Monopoly mansion and pick 8 tokens from a selection of 56 new tokens as well as the current eight tokens. There are lots of new options across eight categories – Animals, Fashion, Historical, Footwear, Inventions, Social Media, Transport and Float.
Often considered the most recognisable token of the game, the top hat is one of the original pieces created in 1935 and was based on the hat the game’s lead character, Mr Monopoly, would wear. Would the game be the same without this token? Or do you think the top hat could do with a fashion-forward update? You could opt for a sleek pair of sunglasses or a fashionable wrist watch instead.
A firm-favourite of mine is the Scottie dog, who has been Mr Monopoly’s right-hand pup ever since its addition to the game in the 1950’s. This token has become the most loved of all the pieces and received the most votes to keep it during the 2013 vote. Could you bear to see the game without the Scottie dog? I know I couldn’t. Maybe you’d prefer to try your luck with a dinosaur or penguin instead.
Around since the beginning, the old boot is modelled after the practical work boot of the 30’s. instead of changing its design with the times, it has remained the same and is a symbol of both hard work and the riches that can come along with it. Do you agree? Or would you prefer to get around the board with some more modern footwear like a pair of rollerskates or bunny slippers.
S.O.S – Save Our Scottie Dog!
Personally, I will be voting to save the Scottie dog. Having played the board game since I was child, the Scottie dog was always my token. Always. It’s Mr Monopoly’s right-hand pup and this player’s loyal companion, so I genuinely couldn’t imagine the game without it.
