REVIEW // Yvolution Y Velo Balance Bike

When we were recently contacted by the lovely people at Yvolution to see if we would like to review the Yvolution Y Velo Balance Bike, I didn’t hesitate in saying yes as I knew it would be perfect for Riley.Yvolution Y Velo Balance Bike

Having been born prematurely, Riley has always had developmental delays, particularly with his gross motor skills, and in addition to having low muscle tone, he was recently diagnosed with hypermobility and dyspraxia. All of these conditions combined affect his ability to ride a bike and at 5 years old, he simply doesn’t have the muscle or strength to pedal a standard bicycle.

Balance bikes are designed to give children the opportunity to learn balance, coordination and motor skills without the need for pedals or stabilisers, so I was really keen to see how he would get on with the Yvolution Y Velo Balance Bike.

What’s in the box?

  • 1 x Yvolution Y Velo Balance Bike (assembly required)
  • 1 x Instruction Manual
  • 4 x Allen Keys

Assembly

Assembling the bike was pretty straightforward, even for a rookie assembler like myself. The diagrams and instructions in the manual were really easy to follow and the whole assembly process took me no more than 10 minutes.

Riley took to the Yvolution Y Velo Balance Bike straight away and I couldn’t believe how confidently he rode it around. It’s so easy to ride, making it an excellent first bike for little ones. To get moving, they simply walk to ride and then eventually, run and cruise. Stopping or slowing down requires nothing more than placing their legs firmly on the ground. It really is as simple as that.

The quality of the bike is second to none and despite having a lightweight aluminium frame, it is incredibly strong and sturdy.  The wheels are much wider than I expected, but I’m actually quite pleased about that because I find they provide a safer ride for Riley on uneven surfaces and as they are made from a durable rubber over-mould material, there’s no risk of punctures.

The bike also features an adjustable seat and handlebars, which is brilliant because it means it will grow with Riley and last much longer than some other bikes. Additionally, as Riley has a younger sibling it means i can adjust the bike when necessary so that Harry can use it as well.

Another thing I noticed was that the Yvolution Y Velo Balance Bike has a higher ground clearance, so Riley can propel himself along without the frame getting caught on uneven ground or other obstacles, providing a much safer and smoother ride.

Yvolution Y Velo Balance Bike

It’s quick to assemble, easy to ride, excellent quality, grows with your child and above all, it’s safe! Yvolution is a trustworthy brand and the Yvolution Y Velo Balance Bike is part of a wider range of ride-ons, scooters and bikes available.

Choosing a balance bike over the traditional stabiliser method may seem a little daunting but they are a fun and great way for kids to grasp balancing on two wheels before the transition to a ‘proper’ bike. Because, let’s be honest, the key skill needed for riding a bike is balance, so it goes without saying that children should master this first.

Traditional stabilisers encourage children to pedal before they can balance which in turn delays them from learning. Balance bikes, on the other hand, help children concentrate and become a master of balance first! They keep your kids much safer and instil them with the skills needed to ride like a pro!

The Yvolution Y Velo Balance Bike has a RRP £49.99 and is available to purchase from the Yvolution website.

I really wish we had got a balance bike for Max, it would have helped so much when it came to riding a bike. Got one for my daughter though and think they’re fab. This one looks really good and suitable for a variety of ages as you can adjust it. Hope it helps Riley’s confidence to cycle x

This balance bike looks brilliant. My 4 year old happily uses a balance bike. He does go on his bike but even though he is nearly there he still doesn’t get the idea how to use the pedals.

See, Riley knows how to use pedals, he just doesn’t have the strength in his legs to do it unfortunately so this balance bike has made such a huge difference for him. xx

It looks really good. Balance bikes are definitely the way forward. Our twins had them from 2 years, and then when they got a bike for their 5th birthday, they could ride just like that!

This is exactly what i’m hoping for with Riley – that we can go straight from a balance bike to a normal bike, without the need for stabilisers. xx

It’s made such a huge difference for him lovely and he’s so much more confident riding this balance bike. I’m hoping when the time comes, we’ll be able to switch to a normal bike and avoid the need for stabilisers xx

This looks fab I have been meaning to get Archie a balance bike for a while now. It’s so good to help them learn to ride a bike without stabilisers. I love the colour too xx

That bike looks fab, we skipped the balance bike stage and am now regretting it as we’re teaching our daughter to ride!
