Nottingham is an amazing place to visit with children, there’s plenty of fun and educational ways for a family to spend the day. But sometimes you’ll want to spend more than a day seeing the sites and for that, you’ll need to find a hotel near Nottingham.
So, before I talk about some of the great family things for people to do in Nottingham let me just share some tips for finding the best hotel first. I’ve compiled a list of all the important things you need to think about before booking a hotel.
- How long you’ll be staying.
- How many of you there are?
- What essentials do you need?
- Your budget.
- How much time will actually spend in the hotel?
The first four questions are pretty basic (but a friendly reminder never hurts) but the last one is something people never really ask themselves. But when you’re travelling as a family especially if you have young children it’s important to think about how much time you’ll actually be spending in the hotel.
You will, of course, want to explore the wonderful city of Nottingham but if your children are young or have a disability you might not just be going to your hotel to sleep, as you might only go out for a few hours or half a day. But the good news is plenty of hotels in Nottingham have lots of onsite activities and facilities like pools, spas, restaurants and children’s centres.
They might cost a bit more to stay at but at least you know your family will have everything it needs to ensure a fun trip to Nottingham. So, now that I’ve shared my tips for getting the best hotel let me share some of my favourite Nottingham attractions.
Explore The Past!
Museums are fun and educational for the whole family and Nottingham has some of the best museums in the UK. The Museum of Nottingham Life and the Industrial Museum are two of the most popular spots and children will love investigating and exploring Nottingham history.
You don’t just have to stick to museums though Nottingham as some stunning historic attractions that will feel like you’ve travelled back in time. The Nottingham castle, the famous windmill at Newstead Abbey and Wollaton Hall are just three amazing places to visit.
You could easily spend all day at these attractions and there’s plenty of things for children to do and see with onsite cafes, picnic areas, visitor centres and guided tours. A trip to Nottingham is great fun for the whole family and you can teach children new things about history while you’re there.
The famous outlaw is pretty much the universal symbol of Nottingham and children especially will love learning more about this mythical figure. You can visit the real-life Sherwood Forest, take an official Robin Hood town tour and visit St Mary’s Church which is where Robin Hood and Maid Marion supposedly got married. There’s also numerous Robin Hood events and festival held around Nottingham all year long, so keep an eye on your calendar.
