Keeping Kids’ Teeth Healthy This Halloween

It’s almost Halloween and the shops are filled with all manner of Halloween merchandise from the spooky and amusing to the downright ghoulish and ghastly. As well as the usual pumpkins, costumes and decorations there is also an incredible range of chocolatey and sugary treats. Then there’s the hoard of sweets collected whilst trick or treating to contend with as well – a true nightmare for any teeth-conscious parents.

Whether you’re letting your kids indulge this Halloween or not, now is the perfect time to establish good habits when it comes to their dental hygiene and keeping teeth clean and healthy. I know, buzzkill, right? But it’s a topic that’s close to my heart and this time of year really doesn’t have to be scary when it comes to your children’s oral health.

So, what can you do to help your children have a happy but tooth-friendly Halloween this year?

Well, Oral B have decided to turn brushing into fun with its NEW electrical toothbrush range that’s in collaboration with Disney. The Oral-B Stages Power Kids Electric Toothbrush moves with oscillating-rotating action for an advanced clean, helping kids have fun while they get the most out of their oral care routine. Ideal for ages 3+ the toothbrush’s ergonomic design is perfect for smaller fingers and its rotating PowerHead features extra-soft bristles for thorough, gentle cleaning.

Another great feature is the rechargeable battery in the handle which ensures that brushing fun is always ready to go at the touch of the button – the battery can last up to five days on a single charge!

What makes this toothbrush instantly appealing to kids though is its use of popular Disney characters from Frozen, Cars and Star Wars as part of the design. Even better is that the toothbrush works in conjunction with the FREE Disney MagicTimer App by Oral-B that has been created to help kids brush for longer.

It’s no secret that brushing for two minutes, twice a day, every day, is one of the best ways that parents can help their children fight cavities and protect their teeth. But, if your children are anything like mine it can be a real challenge to get them to brush for the full two minutes. They get bored, they’re in a rush, they’re tired, they’re late, there’s always an excuse…and no matter how I try to explain it, at 4 and 5, they really can’t comprehend what cavities are and why they are so bad. I am constantly on a quest to make brushing more fun for them and the Disney MagicTimer App by Oral-B does just that.

Disney’s MagicTimer App is FREE to download from iTunes and the Google play store and works by using the camera on your smart device to scan your Oral-B Stages Power Kids Electric Toothbrush. When you scan the toothbrush, a two-minute timer starts and the character from the item animates on your smart device, unlocking a secret image that reveals itself the longer your child brushes their teeth.

Kids can earn stickers, badges and rewards the more frequently they brush with the MagicTimer App and there is also a useful calendar for them to track their brushing progress. Oral-B say that 9 out of 10 kids will brush for longer when using the app and that’s certainly true in our case.

The boys have loved incorporating the app into their toothbrushing routine and getting them both to brush their teeth twice a day for the whole 2 minutes has become a piece of cake. They get really excited watching the timer go down and they both love the sticker rewards at the end of each session. It’s a real motivator for them and Riley in particular thinks it is brilliant that he can track his progress on the calendar and get a virtual gold star each day. Instead of me having to nag and remind them to brush their teeth every morning and evening, they’re both now doing it on their own accord which is a total win for me!

Something as simple as a fun brushing routine can be SO effective for children and this innovative app goes a long way in helping to achieve that and promote healthy oral care habits.

Disney’s MagicTimer App by Oral-B is FREE and available to download from iTunes and the Google play store.

You can choose the Oral-B Stages Power Kids Electric Toothbrush in a Disney Frozen, Cars or Star Wars design and it is available to purchase online from Tesco, Ocado, Waitrose, Boots, Superdrug and Argos.

Exactly. I’m all for the kids trick or treating and coming back with sweets but it should all be in moderation and i think it’s our responsibility as parents to make sure they’re looking after their teeth!xx

The magic timer app is such a brilliant idea. Luke had a bit of trouble brushing his teeth for ages until we got him one of these and now he feels like a big boy.

It’s important that children brush their teeth properly and long enough especially with the Halloween candy that they will be eating over the coming week. We have electric rushes for all our children.
